Between the pointe des Chats and the bay of Locmaria, lies a particularly rough rocky plate. Here, the wind blows unconstrained. The plants are close-cropped, the stripped rocks do not offer any shelter. Fauna and flora took note of these conditions, and are done discrete. Offshore, at 5-25m deep, live the abalones, primarily at the foot of the reefs. |
Larus argentatus Pontopiddan 1773, adult and juvenile, on an intertidal reef covered with barnacles. |
A little garden, fragile and stubborn. On this coast, coralline algae and barnacles are the dominant species. |
Gibbula cineraria (Linnæus 1758) and Gibbula umbilicalis (da Costa 1778) at home. |
Anemonia sulcata (Pennant 1777), an Actinid, from pale brown to green with purple ends. Up to 25-30cm in Ø. |
In a tide pool, under stones, south of Praceline, near the remnants of the ship Sanaga, this little guy. |
The Sanaga went on the coast during the winter 70-71, and stayed there. Severely plundered by the islanders, she was never refloated. Slowly, the ship falls apart, colouring of rust the shells that live close in her neighborhood. |
Formerly the Yewdale, the Sanaga was a 73m coaster built in year 1949. On march 28th, 1971, on her way to Saint Nazaire, she ran aground while approaching the coast in the hope to collect information on her position. |
This wreck is the subject of many paintings, and even of a song. |
