The Manilla Clams live principally in the upper half of intertidal soft bottoms.
Two specimens found 100m off the Pool, in ripple marks.

Cross sculpture more pronounced in posterior part, and soften anteriorly.
Patterns of black and white markings, animal orange, siphons fused;
while the animal of the Chequered Carpet Clam decussatus is white, with two separate siphons.

Tapes decussatus (Linnæus, 1758) has a more uniform sculpture, lives a bit deeper
(shallow sublittoral), and becomes rarer each year.
