By dive, at 35 feet deep, Linggatu Cove, Russell Group, Solomon archipelago. 15,5mm. This species is the pearl of western Pacific haliotids: flat, elongate, thin and beautiful. The white blotches along the row of holes can be observed on most of specimens. |

Differences with thailandis seem numerous: holes are tubular near the apex, the shell is not pink and green, but mainly red with white markings often in ziczac patterns, the columella is larger than in thailandis, the shape is less rounded than oblong, and there is no angular shoulder between the row of holes and the columella. Also, the average size seems larger. |

Patterned. 10-20m deep, Balabac, Palawan, Philippines. 17,7mm. A very elegant species. The area between row of holes and columella shows radial grooves; nacre with magenta shines. |

Two specimens from Olango island, Cebu. Left: 5-10m deep. Right: 20-35m deep, Cawoi island. 20 & 22,7mm. The great difference with clathrata Reeve, is the smooth surface of the dorsum. |

Again two shells from Olango island, Cebu. A: H. clathrata, B: H. tomricei. Buzz Owen (2009) proposed to consider tomricei as a smooth form of clathrata. Tomricei's sculpture is made, when it exists, of widely spaced spiral cords, crossed by even growth-lines. Regarding pattern, tomricei is not as regularly decorated as clathrata. |
