« This new species of Mya is usually covered with a thick tenaceous ferrugenous coat of argillacious earth, which must be removed to discover the real colour of the shell. It was first noticed by Mr. Laskey, and afterwards by M. H. Boys, on Belton sand, near Dunbar, in Scotland, who obligingly favoured us with specimens and remarks, by which we are informed it is a rare species. » – G. Montagu: op. cit.
