Pinna rudis Linnaeus, 1758
Azores to Santa Helena, to western Mediterranean. Possibly in western Ireland, if it is not confused with Atrina fragilis Pennant. Attached in crevices and hollows on rocky bottoms, intertidal to 60m deep. Also living in the muddy fields of the Grande Vasière, at 100-125m deep, off W. France, where it is decimated by scampi dredgings. Said to live also in Caribbean, but this may be due to a confusion with Pinna carnea Gmelin.
