Cardita calyculata (Linnaeus, 1758)
Galicia to Canarias, Azores and atlantic seamounts to Mediterranean. Intertidal to 175m deep, attached on rocks and stones, or under stones on gravel bottoms.
Original taxon: Chama calyculata (scale bearer).
2-3m deep, under stones on gravel, Ligaria bay, Agia Pelagia, Iraklio, northern Crete. 14-20mm.
Synonyms: elongata, formosula (elegant), sinuata...
At low tide, on rocks, Málaga, Andalucia, S. Spain. 13-17mm.
Dead collected at 4-6m deep, on sea urchins, in submerged karst, west of Vulisma Beach, Istros, Kolpos Mirabellou, Lasithi, eastern Crete. 18-23mm.
Collected on stones, at 2-10m deep, Llança, Girona, Catalunya, Spain. 19mm.
25mm! Bored in rock, at 50cm deep, northern shore of N. Kolokitha cove, near the ruined temple. southeastern end of Spinalonga island, Elounda, Lasithi. An old specimen.
