Antigona lamellaris Schumacher, 1817
Okinawa to Australia, to N. Madagascar, Red Sea to E. Mediterranean, in infralittoral sands.
Synonyms: lamarckii, nodulosa, subrostrata.

This is the most strongly sculptured member of the genus; the commarginal lamellae are less numerous and more developed than in chemnitzii, persimilis, somwangi; the radials are less numerous than in chemnitzii or in laqueata. The shell differs from that of gladstonensis not only by the sculpture but also by the colour and pattern: gladstonensis is always pale and devoid of pattern, with only a slightly darker stain on the posterior side.

Above and below: a specimen collected at 8m deep, on sand, Burnaz Beach, Erzin, Hatay, SE. Turkey. 37,9mm.
Detail of the sculpture.
The species shows the most frilled lamellae in the genus.
