Acanthocardia deshayesii (Payraudeau, 1826)
S. Portugal to central Mediterranean.
Original taxon: Cardium deshayesii.
Circalittoral to 100m deep, in sediments.
Shell thin, with concentric lunules of various browns.
50-80m deep, off Motril, Granada, Andalucia, S. Spain. 22-40mm.
Sharp ribs with spatulate spines. Same spot. 31-35mm.

« C. Testá rotundato-cordatá, flavicante, subaequilaterá ; radiis 23, papillosis, acutis ; sulcis et costis transversùm striatis ; papillis carinatis, recurvis, apice dilatatis ; 17 ad 1 8 lineas longá. — In dredge and in coral-fishing nets. Uncommon. This species cannot be confused with the Cardium papillosum Poli, in which the furrows are larger and fewer in number; the papillae are entirely different in shape: they are tapered at their base, dilated at their extremity, curved upwards, hollow, shrouded underneath and much closer therebetween; the valves alre also thinner. Dedicated to Mr. Deshayes, member of the Natural History Society of Paris. »
