The species in T. A. di Monterosato: “Notizie sulle conchiglie della rada di Civitavecchia”, Annali del Museo civico di storia naturale di Genova vol. IX, Genova 1877, p.417. « Disciform […] and entirely covered with very thin spiral stripes. – C. serpuloides is smooth in its upper face. C. exilissimum, Ph., has an angular surface. In the lower face of the new species, there are three or four chain-like striae like those covering the surface of some Philinae. » – Ibid. Hence the name: “catenoides” meaning “chain-like”. |
