Cantabrian Sea to Sénégal, to Adriatic.
Omnivorous in the infralittoral and the circalittoral down to at least 300m deep, on muddy bottoms and in coralligen. Original taxon: Cypraea achatidea.
Variant “bifasciata”. Málaga, Andalucia, S. Spain. 36,5mm.
Synonym: grayi Kiener.
Under rocks at 25-30m deep, Málaga. 40mm.
Form “elongata” Pallary.
Same spot, 37mm. A full adult with no traces of spiral banding.
16 named variants: “longinqua” is one of the most famous. Specimen from Sciacca, Agrigento, S. Sicilia. 38mm.
