Arctic to N. Morocco, lusitanian seamounts to Mediterranean. Grazer and detritus feeder in the infralittoral.
 
« Shell oval-pointed; whorls 6-7, with longitudinal ribs and transverse dotted streaks; a purple band on the middle of the last whorl, which continues in darker purple on the inner edge of each of the other whorls; mouth purple, bead of its right margin of a beautiful white. » – A. G. Desmarest: “Description des coquilles univalves du genre Rissoa de M.
