Mediterranean, especially in the western part.
Grazer and detritus feeder in the upper infralittoral.

One of the dominant mollusc species in Posidonia meadows. Above: 2-3m deep, in grit collected at the bottom of some depressions hollowed in the rocky substrate of a Posidonia meadow, Anse des Fossettes, at the root of the eastern peninsula, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Alpes-Maritimes, SE. France.
8m deep, Bozcaada island, Çanakkale province, W. Marmara, NW. Turkey. 6-7mm.
Juvenile, collected at 3-6m deep, offshore gardens made of small Posidonia patches in rough sand pockets on granitic substract, Ghjunchitu Bay, Isola Rossa, NW. Corsica. 4,5mm.
Subadult (5,5mm) and adult (6,4mm).
Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Anse des Fossettes.
Same spot. 5,9-6,4mm.
Gerontic (7mm) and adult (6,2mm) from the same spot.
The shell whitens while aging.
On a leaf of Posidonia oceanica, Costa Brava, E. Spain.
