Pleurotomella gibbera

Madeira to Mediterranean.
 
Predator in the circalittoral, continental shelf and slope. The epithet “gibbera” was proposed by the authors after a name given to this species by Jeffreys in an unpublished work.
 
Whorls convex, with an oblique subsutural ramp; sculpture of strong longitudinal ribs crossed by spiral cords that become more numerous towards the base; the intersections between radial and transversal sculptures give rise to small projections. The subsutural ramp bears a quantity of curved opisthocline growth striae; aperture elongated; labial margin more or less notched adapically, ending along a well developed siphonal canal; columella sinuous and smooth.

details of the protoconch:
Egg shell with randomly scattered picots, which become spirally arranged near the suture. First protoconch whorls latticed diagonally. Transition proto-teleo markedly sinuous.
