« Consists of 3,5 whorls, descending, compressed, subtly striated. Numerous and beautiful forms to be described, and not to be confused with the A. obliqua Alder, A. Warreni Thompson and A. diaphana Jeffreys of the seas of England, erroneously referred to Mediterranean. The species of this group abound in the littoral zones, but various forms live in deep muddy bottoms and in the coralligenous areas. » – T. A. di Monterosato: Nomenclatura generica e specifica di alcune conchiglie mediterranee, Palermo 1884, p.98 on top.
