Mitrella minor (Scacchi, 1836)
Galicia to Mediterranean. Predator in the infralittoral and in the circalittoral. Original taxon: Columbella minor. Synonyms: politum Cantraine (not Lamarck), and, doubtfully, vitrea Risso. – 30-40m deep, Málaga, Andalucia, S. Spain. 12mm.
The species bears the most pronouced siphonal canal of all the mediterranean Mitrellas, the species hernandezi excepted. The number of ribs on the lower part of the last whorl, and the number of labial teeth, are variable. The shell does not exceed 13mm. – Above: shells of juvenile specimens dredged at 50-80m deep, off Almería, Andalucia, on bottoms covered with coral debris. 3,5-5mm.
