Leufroyia leufroyi (Michaud, 1828)
British Isles to Angola, Mediterranean.
Predator in the infralittoral-circalittoral.
Original taxon: Pleurotoma leufroyi.
Synonyms: caudiculus for the short siphonal canal, and zonalis for its typical banded pattern. Protoconch multispiral.

12m deep, under stone, Bozcaada island, Çanakkale, western Marmara, NW. Turkey. 10mm.
« Nice shell with prominent costae cut by transverse striae in the manner of Buccinum reticulatum Lam. The last whorl is adorned with two interrupted brown bands, the colour of which is very marked on the ribs, while it is almost effaced in the interval which separates them; of these two bands, the lower gets lost in the aperture, the upper one being prolonged alone on the other whorls. The part of the test placed between the ribs is very thin. This species is quite distinct from the one described by M. Payraudeau (Cat. Desc. et Meth. des Annélides et des Mollusques de Corse, page 144, pl.7, Fig. 11) under the name of Pleurotoma Cordieri. Lives in the Mediterranean, Agde coast (Hérault). Very rare. We offer this shell to M. Augustin Leufroy, a young naturalist, who is as successful as he is zealous in the study of the sciences, and whose erudition gives the highest hopes. Token of friendship. » – A. Michaud: “Description de plusieurs espèces de coquilles vivantes de la Méditerranée”, Bulletin d’Histoire Naturelle de la Société Linnéenne de Bordeaux vol. II, Bordeaux 1827, p.121.
