SE. Asia to India, to Red Sea. E. Mediterranean (Beirut, 2000). Predator in the rocky upper infralittoral.
Original taxon: Murex sacellum.
Misidentified with Drupella rugosa (von Born, 1778).
Among stones, Shikmona beach, Haifa, NW. Israel. 29-33mm.
Same spot, dark specimen. 28mm. V. Yerenburg legit (IL).

« Shell fusiformly ovate, spire acuminated, whorls angulated round the upper part, encircled with rows of erect somewhat prickly peculiarly compressed scales on and below the angle, the interstices between which are very minutely scaled ; yellowish white, scales light brown. »
