Mediterranean to Angola, Canarias. Predator in the lower infralittoral and in the circalittoral, down to the continental shelf and slope, on sedimentary bottoms. Basionym: Pleurotoma similis. Synonym: balteata Kiener.

« We have so far seen only a very small number of individuals of this species, which is very elegant and the largest of those found in the Mediterranean. Two of them are part of the Museum’s collection. Mr. Beck, a Swedish naturalist, on his last trip to Paris, named this shell without giving the description; we have retained the name that this scholar assigned to it. » – Op. cit. p.26 of the Pleurotome section.
