« Shell thick, solid, oval, subturriculate; whorls 9, the two first ones completely smooth and mammilated, the following four being nodulose, the three last ones finely striated with growth lines, and depressed or subcanaliculate below the suture; aperture oval, with smooth margins, a rather short canal slighly upwardly incurved, and a well marked angular sinus at the junction of the two rims; colour whitish, irregularly veined outside with red or brown, violaceous or chocolate-red inside, and sometimes entirely brown, with a subsutural line articulated with brown and white. »

Dark specimen found at 3m deep, on muddy gravel, among Posidonia, shallow water, SE. end of Elounda bay, NW. coast of Kolpos Mirabellou, Lassithi, N. Crete. 35mm. This form seems restricted to some sheltered places in eastern Mediterranean.
A special population lives on the eastern coast of Elounda peninsula. The shell is all grey, and small: this specimen is the largest of those I met here. 1m deep, on rock exposed to sun, northern shore of Kolokitha beach. 28,5mm.
4m deep, on rock, Kyriamadhi, south-east of Vernechodhi hill, north of Itanos, Palaikastro, east of Sitia, E. Crete. 28,5mm.
