N. Brittany to Canarias, Mediterranean. Predator on seashells in the shallow infralittoral, on sandy bottoms.
Original taxon: Natica guilleminii. Synonym: marmorata Risso, not Adams. Málaga, Andalucia, S. Spain. 16-18mm.
« Pretty shell pleasantly adorned with purple red and yellowish white, arranged by zones; longitudinal striations quite pronounced; spire acute, of an orange hue; white columella in the middle and red-bay at both ends; interior of the aperture striped with these two colours. It passes quite often dark purple. « Whitish, marbled with chestnut and somewhat flammulate at the suture, a lighter marbled band on the periphery. » – G. W. Tryon: Manual of conchology, structural and systematic vol. VIII, Philadelphia 1886, p.25. Sculpture: minute growth striae with sometimes a set of folds. Umbilicus open, radially striated, devoid of marked spiral cords; a brownish parietal callus partially covers the umbilicus in the adapical region.
