Enginella leucozona (Philippi, 1844)
Mediterranean.
Predator in shallow water and infralittoral.
Original taxon: Buccinum leucozonum.
 
« Shell small, fusiform; sculpture made up of circa 9 costae crossed by raised transverse ribs; colour dusky, mottled of dark with a white zone placed astride two ribs; whorls convex; aperture narrow, as high as the spire; labial teeth circa 6; columella bearing 3 noduli » (only in fully adult specimens). – R. A. Philippi: “Nachtrag zum zweiten Bande der Enumeratio Molluscorum Siciliae”, Zeitschrift für Malakozoologie vol. I, Hannover 1844, p.111-112.

Pale variants from Kerkennah island, S. Tunisia. 7-8mm. These colours are typical of nearshore flats with high water salinity and temperature, all conditions that are encountered in Argostoli shallows as well as round Kerkennah.
