Cyrillia aequalis (Jeffreys, 1867)
Norway to Mediterranean. Predator in the circalittoral.
Original taxon: Defrancia linearis var. “aequalis”.

« Shell broader than the typical form [linearis], with the whorls more rounded; ribs more numerous, and not so prominent or rugged; spiral striae closer and finer; apex yellowish-white; coloured lines regularly distributed, and of a paler hue; in some specimens these markings are very faint or altogether wanting. » – J. G. Jeffreys: British Conchology vol. IV, London 1867, p.369 – 80m deep, Saronic Gulf, E. Greece. 5,7mm.
Synonym: Cenodagreutes aethus E. H. Smith, 1967, who writes: « The ornamentation consists of very fine axial growth rugae and small pustules covering the depressions between the spiral cords. The suture is fine and there is no sutural shelf. The labial aperture is ovate and the siphonal canal is short and smooth. The sinus is shallow and occupies most of the shoulder. The parietal and columellar calluses are smooth and abruptly marked off from the surface ornamentation. The outer lip is thin. Color: The ground color of the shell is creamy white, the pustules are brilliant white and the spiral cords reddish-brown. Over some of the axial ribs, however, the brown coloration of the cords is absent. » – E. H. Smith: “wo new species of British turrids”, The Veliger 10(1), Berkeley 1967-1968, p.1. The colour of the cords is not as markedly interrupted as it can be in linearis.
Protoconch typical of the genus.
