Coralliophila meyendorffii (Calcara, 1845)
Galicia to Angola, Azores to Mediterranean. Predator on various Cnidarians in the infralittoral. Two groups have been recognized, one large-sized, one of smaller specimens, each having its peculiar diet (Oliverio & Mariottini, 2001).

Basionym: Murex meyendorffii. Many named variants.
Specimen of the first group (small), collected in very shallow water, on rock, feeding on Balanophyllia europaea, northern coast of Ostriconi bay, N. of Isola Rossa, NW. Corsica. 21mm.
21m deep, on sand, Málaga, Andalucia, S. Spain. 25mm.
Murex Meyendorffii in P. Calcara: Cenno sui molluschi viventi e fossili della Sicilia…, Palermo 1845, plate IV fig.22.

« Testa oblonga subfusiformi, longitudinaliter multi-varicosa, lineis transversis costatis elevatis, apertura oblonga, labro acuto, intus laevigato nitido, columella integra, cauda brevi. » The shell of the species differs from that of brevis by its less developed last whorl, and from that of panormitana by its rougher sculpture. C. ahuiri has sharper radial costae, while the shells of sophiae and trigoi bear frilled spiral cords.
Large specimens (second group) collected in shallow water, on rocky bottom, near Anemonia sulcata, Puerto Mazarrón, Murcia, S. Spain. 30-32,5mm.

Calcara: « Mi onoro dedicare questa nuova specie di murice al signor barone De Meyendorff Ministro Plenipotenziario di S. M. l’Imperatore delle Russie, in attestato di mio profondo rispetto a si dotto geologo. »
