Cheirodonta pallescens (Jeffreys, 1867)
Western English Channel to Cabo Verde, Azores and lusitanian seamounts to Mediterranean. Subtidal down to at least the circalittoral level. Predator on sessile preys (sponges).

« Teloconch with flat whorls, suture indistinct. Sculpture made up of three granular spiral cords: cords 1 and 3 appear first, cord 2 appears around the 9th whorl. Cord 4 concealed on the spire, cleared on the last whorl; it is smooth, as are the two basal cords. Behind the peristome appear three supernumerary cords: under 2, 3 and 4. Peristome flared; indentation of the posterior canal well marked but completely open; internal lip slightly thickened; siphonal canal short, almost closed. » – P. Bouchet: “Les Triphoridae de Méditerranée et du proche Atlantique”, Lavori della Società Italiana di Malacologia vol.21, Milano 1984 (1985), p.53.

On the last whorl, the fourth spiral cord appears to be smooth near the columella, and only weakly nodulose later; the cords 5 and 6 are, as for them, completely smooth. Protoconch conical, « with convex whorls. Egg shell granulose. Larval shell adorned with two spiral keels and uninterrupted axial costae delineating small meshes. » – Op. cit.
