Chauvetia ventrosa Nordsieck, 1976
Central Mediterranean.
Scavenger and predator at least in the infralittoral.

The shell of this species is less slender than those of the other members of the genus in Mediterranean. The protoconch is more obtuse. The intersections between the radials and the spirals bear some brownish-orange buttons, like in mamillata or turritellata but more marked, more round than rectangular, and more numerous because of the slightly higher number of radial costae and spiral cords.

8m deep, Bozcaada island, Çanakkale, W. Marmara province, NW. Turkey. 7,5mm.
Detail of the round blotches on the intersections.
The spiral cords are not as strong as in turritellata. The close species Chauvetia lefebvrii (Maravigna, 1840) has squared blotches and more convex whorls.
