Alvania subcrenulata

Western Mediterranean. Shallow water to coralligen, and probably deeper. Grazer and detritus feeder.
Original taxon: Rissoa subcrenulata.
36m deep, on sand, Wied-iz-Zurrieq, Malta. 0,75 to 1mm.
« Shell rather solid, shiny, of an oval shape. Whorls 6, convex, the last being proportionnaly large […], bearing strong longitudinal costae and decurrent cords […] that define a reticulate sculpture made of subrectangular meshes provided with sharp tubercles at the points of intersection. 40m deep, Scoglio Fino, Marciana Marina, Isola d’Elba, Toscana, W. Italy. 4,5-4,8mm.

A difference with A. nestaresi is given by the protoconch: corded in nestaresi, it bears minute nodules in subcrenulata.
