Alvania lineata Risso, 1826
Unusual specimens
The shell of this specimen resembles both that of A. discors (Allan, 1818) and that of A. lineata Risso, 1826. But its whorls are slightly rounded, while they are almost flat in A. discors; there is sometimes a spiral pattern as in A. lineata, but it does not cover the whole shell. – Above and below: 8m deep, in grit, Saronic Gulf, E. Greece. 4,8mm.
The protoconch, unfortunately damaged, is not multispiral as in A. discors. This could be an unusual lineata, despite the small number of radial costae.
Another uncommon variant ex colore, identified by A. Pagli as a true lineata, with some very few spiral stripes only visible near the aperture. 8m deep, Bozcaada. 2,66mm.
Dark variant collected at 2-6m deep, in Posidonia meadows, Uvala Žorljevica, southern coast of Molat island, Zadar archipelago, Croatia. 4,3mm. A. Petani legit (HR).
Same spot. 3,85-4,1mm.
Other dark shell from 5m deep, Vouliagmeni. 4,8mm.
